Lemon Twist Gala II
We hope you will join us for the Lemon Twist Gala II. Tickets are now available.
November, 16, 2019 | 7–11 p.m.
Asbury Hall, Buffalo, NY
The unforgettable evening of dance will feature cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, music, a silent auction, and a special ballroom dance performance starring Lauren Walier and Mayo Alanen.
Lauren Walier is an inspirational young dancer and founder of the Make Lemon Aide Foundation for CP. Diagnosed with CP at the age of one, she was told she would never walk. But thanks to her perseverance and an innovative therapy program called the Symptom Recovery Model, Lauren has overcome the odds and is now fulfilling her lifelong dream to ballroom dance.
Mayo Alanen is a world-class professional ballroom dancer, coach, and choreographer. He has appeared on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, PBS's American Ballroom Challenge, and TLC's Ballroom Blitz, as well as starred in the off-Broadway hit, Champions of the Dance.
Since becoming partners in 2016, the duo has toured the world competing in international dance competitions. Now, they are returning to the Lemon Twist Gala II with their new performance, This is Me.
Inspired by the film, The Greatest Showman, This is Me coveys a message of self-love, acceptance, and empowerment. While CP is known as the “forgotten disability,” Lauren refuses to live in the shadows. She exudes bravery and pride in her daily life – and brings these same traits to the dance floor.
Through This is Me, Lauren’s goals are to share the many faces of CP and to show others with disabilities that they don’t have to be silent or ashamed of who they are. It’s a heartfelt performance you will not want to miss.
